Quaint Algorfa Village for Discovery
Algorfa is another village that is located in Vega Baja just like Albatera. Its location in the lush and fertile countryside brings on different fresh vegetation with the irrigation of Segura River. Algofa is blessed with majestic mountains and the Mediterranean Sea as its backdrop.
It offers constant sunshine throughout most of its days with a pleasant climate of 19 degrees Celsius and a little rain.
Algorfa is a small village that thrives on agriculture since its civilization. Citrus farming is abundant at its fertile countryside with the production of oranges and lemons. The citrus orchards can be viewed all over Algorfa countryside.
It also sports a vibrant culture through its 1,800 residents who enjoy all the fiestas celebrated throughout the year. Today, the tourism industry is growing in leaps and bounds as tourists desire the tranquility and natural beauty at Algorfa.
Algorfa was settled by various tribes as far back as 3,000 B.C. This is proven by the numerous historical artifacts found in 1903 which included Neolithic human remains.
The Christian Re-Conquest took over this quaint village in the 14th century with King Alfonso II as head of the Valencia kingdom. Many ancient structures that have been built with each varied civilization have been well preserved.
Algorfa continues to thrive in its traditional industry even with a small population. The locals are very hospitable and take on an easy lifestyle with great celebrations at all local festivals.
The simple town hall, police station and church make up the heartbeat of Algorfa. There are small restaurants, cafés and bars in the village to cater to the gastronomical needs of the locals and tourists day and night.
The atmosphere in Algorfa is usually very tranquil unless it is celebrating a festival. Algorfa also boasts of a golf course with 72 par for a great game of golf at the local 18-hole championship turf.
The local Sunday market is a strong favorite with not only the tourists but also the locals. One can enjoy browsing the myriad of exquisite bargains besides the fresh produce on sale.
Algorfa would not disappoint avid history buffs looking for news; there is the 19th century Neo-gothic church outside Algorfa which has excellent architecture. Algorfa is ideal for leisure activities to relax oneself on its beautiful sandy beaches with a leisurely stroll.
