Driving Through Angel
Angel Islington is one of the most desirable places to live in London. It’s one of those areas that have the best of everything; a great selection of shops and amenities, bars and cafes, pubs and clubs, restaurants serving cuisine from around the world, good transport links and pretty buildings. Taxis in Angel are kept busy during the day with those who work in the area, and in the evening with people wanting a night out on the town. From market stalls to high street chains, and a jazz clubs to multi-screen cinemas, you can see why so many Londoners flock here.
The Angel at Islington was originally a well-known Inn near a toll gate; it is said to date back to the 1600s during the time of the Black Death, and is also mentioned in famous literature such as Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Back then it was coaches that pulled up here, but these days you’ll find people pouring out of Angel taxis to visit the JD Wetherspoons pub located there. It is next door to the location of the original building, which itself is now home to a bank and market research offices.
If you want to go out for the evening in Islington but you’re not sure exactly where to go, try taking a stroll along Upper Street. This is one of the main roads through the area, and it’s lined with a huge variety of places to go. You could have a drink in ‘The King’s Head’ if you like traditional English pubs, and there’s also a theatre out the back if you want to watch a show! Just along the pavement you’ll find ‘Slim Jims’, styled like an LA dive. You can get a good tequila here, or at ‘Cuba Libre’ if you want an authentic Mexican feel. For fun cocktails try ‘The Ladybird’, or stick to O’Neills for a friendly Irish pint. There aren’t many better streets in London for a good bar crawl!
If you are drinking alcohol on a night out, it’s important to organise a safe trip home; the tubes may have finished by the time you leave the pub. Taxis in Angel Islington run around the clock and cal be booked online using an application or by visiting a website on any smart phone. If you know what time you’ll be leaving in advance, it could be even cheaper to book online before you leave. With all the taxi companies offering online bookings these days, it’s a lot easier to get a lift home!
