Delhi: Itineraries for Everyone
New Delhi, Is a city which has seen a lot of plunder in it’s hey days. From the long rein of the Mughal Empire to an equally long innings of the British empire, Delhi has seen a lot of settlements, exhume of settlements are new resettlements happening over centuries. It currently stands testimony to the insignias left behind by these invasions and is a glorious mix of the past and present alloying them together to present a pictures queue façade.
This article talks about a day long itinerary which you can plan for yourself while you are boarding one of the many cheap flights to Delhi. Once there, this itinerary of yours looks something like the following.
Kick start the morning with the fresh air of the signature emblem of Lutyens’ architectural marvel, the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Lutyens was a master architect who was commissioned the hugely scaled objective of lending a British authoritative signature to Delhi. The Rashtrapati Bhavan is one of these marvels. Set in the context of the then Viceroy making this establishment his residence, it has British style of architecture oozing from every wall. Right from ribbed arches to arterial hallways, this is a must see while you are on your Delhi rendezvous. It is now the official residence of the President of the country and draws many a crowd to it’s fragrance-led gardens which house the grandest trees found In the country.
A stone’s throw from the Rashtrapati Bhawan is the India Gate. It is a commemorative structure built in the memory of Indian soldiers who fought for the British army in the First World War. It stands tall amongst a water body flowing around it’s circumference and lush lawns perimetering it. After a visit to the India Gate you can hop over to the National Gallery of Modern Art which is right across the road, if you wish to see the evolution of Indian art over the years. Right beside the Modern Art gallery is the National Museum which takes it’s pride in the fact that it is the largest and the most exhaustive museum of the country.
The nearby Connaught Place is the go-to spot in case your taste buds have not started poking you after this round about mentioned above. The varied assortment of traditional Indian vegetarian food and Indian Mughlai non vegetarian platters would round off the day in a spectacular fashion. While in Connaught Place do not forget to pick street junk stuff as souvenirs for friends and relatives.
Delhi’s vastness makes it impossible to make itineraries compact in nature. In the next publishing, we would talk about places in South Delhi worth a see. So make sure the next time you are on one of those many flights to Delhi, you earmark the above mentioned spots in your diary.
