Delhi: Itineraries according to your customized needs

By Jessica Olivia Subscribe to RSS | December 2nd 2011 | Views:

New Delhi as stated in previous articles has been a tourist haven since donkey’s years now. A place seeped in history, New Delhi is a place where tourists can draw both curtailed and detailed itineraries according to the time they are going to spend there. This article frames one such itinerary.

Though travel agents and tour operators draw customized itineraries as per your needs, there are a lot many places they tend to skip because of catering to too many groups at a point of time. With the help of this write up, you can ask your agent to include these places if they already do not figure in the plan or you can visit these places on your own. Make sure you enquire about them well in advance before boarding one of the many cheap flights to Delhi on offer.

The Crafts Museum near Pragati Maidan (a plush street in the south-central part of Delhi) is home to India’s finest arts and crafts showcase. Thousands of Indianized creations made of materials like bronze, copper, fine metals, finely graveled mud (which serve as raw materials to earthen pots and pans), Indian drapes (especially the numerous varieties of Saris) and other accessories which make this place a droolworthy option, especially for women. Countless splendid souvenirs for your family and friends can be procured from the Crafts Museum which makes this place a must-see for all.

The Qila-I-Kuhna serves as the best and emotionally charged memoir of Humayun’s era in Delhi. Less commonly frequented, this structure was a huge library for Humayun where he eventually died due to an accident. This structure has an octagonal shape, which is a rarity in Islamic architecture patterns and deserves a visit because of the mystique and edge which surrounds this structure. 3 gigantic gates lead you in the Qila which is embellished on it’s borders by the river Yamuna. The Qila-I-Kuhna is a must see for the ones who are fascinated by shapes and symmetry.

Overlooking the Qila-I-Kuhna is the Humayun’s Tomb which was declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage site recently. The Tomb was also paid a visit by Barrack Obama, the American premier when he came visiting to India in 2010. This served as a memoir of Humayun after he passed away and was commissioned by his widow, Hamida Banu Begum.

All these places are within 5 kilometres of each other and hiring a cab for all these 3 places would be a wise option. Taking half a day out would be enough for these places and would enrich your Delhi experience. In the next article we would be talking about other attractions like the Nizamuddin Dargah which has been drawing a beeline of visitors recently. Flights to Delhi are available from every major airport of the world.
