The Internet is a mighty resource tool that can be used for a great number of purposes. You can learn, communicate, shop, work, advertise, spread knowledge, skillfully waste time, entertain yourself and yada yada with the Internet. Millions, trillions, zillions of pages and communities exist on the Internet on every random topic you can think of at this instant. There’s practically nothing you can’t do with the Internet. Nobody owns the Internet and universal rules are not regulated to monitor the data transferred. Nobody owns the Internet and so it is a nearly unrestricted platform to inflict evil. Viral and vulgar material spread at speeds faster than light on the Internet from one corner of the world to the other. When talking about viral content, it’s funny how data that can be termed as unsuitable and inappropriate gains popularity much more than political affairs and educative information. The Internet has developed to a massive, globalized society where the bad outweighs the good. Sadly, there’s no stopping it. There’s always a breakthrough in the laws and security controls the government imposes to censor inappropriate content and stop piracy. The Television like the Internet is the ideal platform where young minds get corrupted ever so frequently. Given its multiple advantages like e-learning, the Internet is recognized as the ultimate interactive learning media for kids. Like a moth drawn to the light, the youngsters concentrate more on the bad stuff out there.

With parents living dual lives, balancing between work, meetings and family responsibilities it is not possible to monitor their kids’ activities. There’s a possibility that a pathway exists in 5 of 10 sites your child visits that will expose them to ‘all the evil’ and explicit information that best not be mentioned. Once they get a taste of that deceptively enticing world, there’s no guarantee that they’ll come back unscathed. The Internet like the TV, without doubt is an excellent knowledge base, but what you learn is an entirely different matter. This is where your kids start going behind your back and do you think that you can really control them? It’s not a matter of trust in this situation. Your child may be pristine extraordinaire, but on the Internet you don’t have to volunteer to get your minds dirtied- the bad comes to you.

The same thing goes for the Television and the mobile phone. They are certain necessities, unavoidable media of communication that pose to be dangerous to the younger generation as much as they are advantageous. But in the present day world, there’s always a way out of every problem and the solution to protecting your child from the harmful side of the world is setting up parental controls. These days you can set up parental controls on communication media that are considered as potential threats. To filter content your child views on the Internet for example, you can install antivirus software that regulates Internet security. It’s even possible to block sites that you think are harmful. There are many softwares designed exclusively to set parental controls. Also with parental controls, you can view your kid’s activity. Parental controls generate activity reports that show all the network places your kid visited. Not only with the Internet, you can set parental controls on Television channels too. For example, with cable providers like ATT Digital TV you can lock the channels that telecast violent or vulgar material. This way even when you are away, there are no dangers of your child getting exposed to unwanted information, unmonitored. Nowadays, there are child lock controls devised on every telecommunication or entertainment media your kid has access to. Gaming consoles, portable mp3 players and even mobile phones come with parental control options. Consequently, children aren’t the only ones that benefit through parental controls- with strong, legitimate parental control software you can prevent your computer from spyware, malware and viruses.
