How to Select Golf Equipment for Beginners

Selecting golf equipment for beginners can be tricky. For every pro shop or golfing retail outlet that is interested in helping the beginner, there is a pro shop or golfing retail outlet that has a set of clubs out the back which have been there for ages that nobody wants, and are just waiting to be palmed off onto someone unsuspecting who is green around the gills and ready to swallow anything that the sales assistant is prepared to say.

And as helpful as the internet is when it comes to selecting golf equipment for beginners, it can also be totally overbearing. Every product is reviewed a million times on a million websites, and what is good on one website is not so good on another website. Even sites that are specifically dedicated to helping you to select golf equipment for beginners can send mixed messages that leave you feeling completely flummoxed and debating whether it might be easier to just buy a darts board instead. Do not despair though, because these three tips will make sure that the beginners’ equipment you end up purchasing is both suitable, and economical.

Tip 1: beware false economy. One of the biggest mistakes that people make when selecting golf equipment for beginners, is that they assume that someone starting out does not need good equipment. The problem is that the worse you are the more you need good equipment. This is not to say that you need to buy the clubs the professionals use. This would not work because believe it or not, the clubs that professionals use (blades), are really hard to use unless you are pretty good. However, you should probably buy clubs that are a top make. If you are worried about the expense of this then look for sale clubs that are a couple of seasons old. They will still be great to use but they won’t cost anywhere near as much.

Tip 2: Try before you buy. Because the internet is pretty much the cheapest place to get everything these days, selecting golf equipment for beginners from the web just makes sense. The danger with this, though, is to buy clubs that you have not tried, based on the positive review that has been provided by someone who is chiefly interested in selling them to make money, is to take a huge leap of faith that could leave you with a set of clubs that you hate. Make sure you go to your nearest pro shop or retail outlet before selecting beginners’ clubs, and make sure you give them a go first. You can then go on the internet and compare prices before getting them from wherever is cheapest.

Tip 3: Go with what feels nice. So many people go to select golf clubs for beginners and end up getting talked out of buying the clubs that they want because some pushy salesperson wants to get rid of certain clubs that nobody else wants. Never allow someone else to sway your decision when it comes to selecting beginner clubs. If you are swinging a particular make of club and it feels right, and you are hitting the ball well with it, then it does not matter if they are a brand that you have never heard of, or whether a sales assistant is turning purple trying to sell you a different set – go with what feels nice!
