I close my eyes for a moment and see green pastures and crystal clear water and springs filling the earth all over. That's where I want to live and I want to give this wonderful precious gift to my son when he visits this world for the first time. The healthy feel of breeze and the fresh air is what I wish to see on this earth. It is definitely possible to turn this dream world into a real world. We all need to feel the love for our mother earth which is our only home for generations to come. We need to usher the initiative to turn the earth into a fresh place for dwelling. Today we have turned the earth an unsafe place for living. Are you aware of the damages that have already been done?

Pollution has taken its toll on 46% of America's lakes and the result is that it is now too polluted for any fish or aquatic organisms to survive. Around 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution is being dumped into the Gulf of Mexico by the Mississippi River each year. Almost half of the world is affected by polluted waters and it is resulting in 250 million people being affected by water borne diseases and 5 to 10 million people die because these diseases. Pollution is the major reason why there are so many diseases and women and children are more vulnerable to these diseases. More than 50% if carbon monoxide emissions are because of vehicle exhausts in America. Every year around 3 million tons of toxic chemicals are released into the air, water and land by U.S factories. Isn't it astounding to note that one American is capable of producing 3,285 pounds of hazardous waste in one year?

Global warming is one such effect of pollution. So what is this global warming? It means heating up of the earth. There are certain green house gases which are capable of trapping the heat of the sun and heating the earth. To some extent it is healthy to increase the temperature of the earth. But the problem occurs when there are too many green house gases which heats up the earth so much that it becomes difficult for plants to survive. When these plants die, the animals that are dependent on such plants die as well. More over Global warming causes melt down of glaciers resulting in the water level rising and making the coastal areas to submerge and unfit for man to survive. This leads to a break in the food chain.

So how can we prevent this pollution and reach the goal of making this earth a safe place? The good news is that there is hope. The solution is simple you just need to follow some simple steps and you can change the environment drastically. Firstly say no to smoking or learn not to smoke at least in the no smoking zones. Try not to dump your waste near wells. There are a lot of pesticides available which have chemicals in them that are not hazardous. Make an effort to use them for farming. Maintain your car in a good condition so that it does not emit smoke. Try to use carpooling, the practice of sharing a common vehicle instead of using more vehicles to travel to a similar destination. Switch off your Television when not in use. Try to recycle and reuse and put litter in bins. Animal waste when mixed with the storm drain system will cause diseases because of emission of bacteria. Cultivate the habit of picking up after your pets.

I recently happened to watch a program on pollution that was aired on Verizon FIOS TV and it was really an eye opener. What we have discussed so far is just a tip of the iceberg. But if you develop a curiosity towards knowing more about pollution and what you need to do to prevent it by the end of reading this article, I'd be very happy. Don't blow it guys good planets are hard to find!
