A beautiful bouquet of roses can convey so much meaning to the recipient. It could mean that you are sorry, or it could be an expression of love. It could be a present to help make up after an argument or it could be your way of making someone feel special. Expressing yourself with flowers or the understanding of the meaning of flowers is called floriography and it is believed to have originated in the east, in Persia. It came up at a time when women were forbidden from learning the written language and therefore used flowers to communicate.

This means of using flowers then came all the way to Europe and was used as means of indicating high society or people of the ruling class. Different flowers were give different meanings and over the years these have become subjective to cultures and societies. A single rose has several meanings as do a bunch of roses.

When it comes to roses, each colour has a different meaning associated with it.

White roses for example are a symbol of purity, innocence as well as a sign of innocence, secretiveness and worthiness. You will find them used in religious contexts, in bridal bouquets and even in the clothing that is associated with these concepts.

Red roses are a sign of love and respect. They also are a means of congratulating somebody and are a symbol of passion.

Pink roses are a sign of happiness and admiration. They are used to indicate elegance and romance as well as gratitude. They can indicate a sweetness, such as a budding romance, as well. There are several shades of pink that can be put together depending on the intensity of your emotions.

Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship and caring. They are also used to welcome somebody and indicate joy.

There are also rarer shades of roses like orange ones that are indicative of pride and desire. They are also a romantic set of flowers and are often compared to sunsets and sunrises.

Roses in the shade of coral too have almost the same meaning as orange ones.

Peach roses are given as an indication of appreciation as well as to thank somebody.

There are several mystical shades of roses like blue and black, however most of these are a figment of one’s imagination. Though there are a few times when intense colours can give them impression of these shades.
