When you buy a commercial radio, often you may have complaints regarding the reception power of the device. You can increase the receptivity at home itself by doing some wonders with the antenna. You can replace the antenna with 5/8 wave folded dipole antenna. Many radios and most of the home stereo receivers include antenna terminals for an external antenna to be connected. Generally, the supplied antenna is of a less complicated design. This can be of a telescopic rod type or a short length of wire. If you are ready to pay a little amount of money, you can greatly improve the design and service. Above all, you will get all the items in a local electronics or hardware store. The steps to be followed are discussed below.

The first step to be followed while making an fm antennaFM Antenna is to determine the frequency of the station you wish to tune into. Irrespective of the particular frequency, the entire FM broadcast band of the radio’s tuner will be able to receive strong signals from the antenna. The signals received will increase at the particular frequency and will be slightly less as it is tuned away from the desired frequency. The next step would be to calculate the length of the antenna, which depends on the formula L= 93.75/f. Here L is the length to be used and f is the frequency to be tuned into. Next, you should improve the antenna design where it should be T-shaped. The antennas of this design are known to deliver the greatest performance. The step which follows next is to cut the feed line which is nothing but the vertical portion of the antenna.

An fm antennaFM Antenna will not be ready for use if the antenna and the feed line are not interconnected to each other. The exposed twin lead wires should be tinned with solder. In this step do not use acid core solder. The antenna and the feed line should be soldered together as well. The above mentioned steps are very much essential to build up an FM antenna, which will deliver unrestricted service to you.
