Do you love beaches, water and the sand? Who will not? At least half of Americans who travel abroad have beaches in mind, and a good many of them like sailing. If you are a veteran sailor, then little I need to say about the pleasure you will be getting out of sailing, just as I do. Sailing is a sport that anyone will fall in love with instantly; it will help you spend a lot of time in the sea, in total privacy and for hours together. For those who have never sailed in their life on their own, it is time to consider taking to it as a sport. You will love it and cherish it, just as much as the huge crowd that I saw the other day while watching a sailing competition on my Dish Network.

Sailing is for everyone; men, women, middle aged…anyone for that matter. But before you venture out into the sea, see that you have an experienced sailor beside you to be guided and warned about in advanced. Before anything else, try getting some experience swimming in rough sea weather. There are some dangers inherent to sailing which should be obvious to the readers. Here are some sailing tips from experienced sailors and veteran sportsmen who have taken to this sport in a big way. Sailing can be a somewhat demanding in terms of strength and stamina, and if you lack in any of them, get yourself fit and start sailing.

Experience can make you a master sailor in no time; you will be able to deal with the roughest of weather with ease, but for now you have to keep to the calmer un-crowded waters. That means you must choose a place where the tide is favorable and stable, and the waters warm and manageable. Your ability to manage a sail boat successfully is directly related to wind speeds, so don't venture out on a windy day. Weather men or coast guards on beaches can tell you the ideal time for beginner sailors. Heed to their advice, it is for your good.

You don't have to own a sailing boat to enjoy the sport, instead hire or borrow one from a willing friend, if he has one. The bigger boats, with complex controls, take time to master, so the smaller boat is ideal for you. Having a small boat will let you practice capsizing many times before you venture farther away into the waters. Practicing capsizes are important because it happens very frequently and you will need to get to them back into position even while you are out at sea.

Even the most experienced sail boat drivers can go wrong on a rough day, and as a beginner you need to be a little more cautious than others. So keep a float handy all the time you are out there. There are umpteen ways in which you can sail safely and buying the right kind of life jackets is one of them. If you have doubts about what will fit your needs then do not hesitate to ask someone knowledgeable about the subject or better still buy a book or visit the many sailing sites on the internet. There are also trainers who can do a wonderful job for you.

Making adjustment to the sailing mechanism is the key to having a pleasurable experience. Generally a flat sail will be preferred on a windless day and fuller one when there is moderate wind. But for fixing them for best experience you will need to get familiar with all the controls; they are all intricate and you will need to make precision adjustments. Sailing is not really a solo sport, you can take your family along on a bigger boat, and even your pet dog.
