Taking good dog photos is not as much difficult as it is frustrating, especially if your pet is not trained and usually does not respond to commands. In fact, even with trained dogs the task can pose some challenges. Due to their curious and friendly nature, the dog can start wiggling its tail at any moment, turn his head when it hears a noise or simply move away from the spot that you want to use as background. However, these inconveniences can be eliminate if you select the appropriate location for the picture, namely one your pet is interested in and that will keep it focused.

The easiest approach to taking great dog photos in order to enter a competition would be to take the time and teach it how to respond to a good solid dog command. While it is true that this situation will require a lot of patience from your part, it is generally a good idea to avoid putting too much pressure on the dog. One of the reasons for this is that dogs often pick up on their masters' vibes and all you will manage to do is make matters worse. Just relax, constantly encourage your pet and get somebody to help you take the pictures.

In order to make sure that the dog will be looking at the camera while you take the shot, it is recommended to say its name and the command afterwards. An alternative method of grabbing its attention comprises of using squeaky toys. However, it is unadvisable to use one of his favorite toys, as he might feel compelled to come and take it away from you. In the eventuality that the dog is not responding to your command or the toy, another idea is to wave a treat above the camera. When the dog is looking straight at the camera simply take a picture.

The best dog photos do not depend solely on the pet's cooperation, but also on selecting a background that will complement the colors of the fur. For instance, black or dark blue backgrounds tend to highlight the beauty of a white, golden or red base fur. In case the dog has darker fur, then you should use light colored backdrops, such as lavender, light green or light blue for example. In order to avoid distractions caused by the surroundings, it is best to use solid-colors, instead of patterned models for the background. At the same time, it is advisable to steer clear of plain white settings, as they tend to make the dog look washed-out and pale.

For best results and in case the dog photos might need editing, it is a good idea to use a good digital camera. A further reason why the digital camera is a great choice is that you can easily delete the photos that came out badly with ease. In addition, since it is very likely that this task will take some time, the digital camera has all the versatility you need to take practice shots.
