Staying in the hotels in Bucharest city centre means that there is easy access to a wide variety of things to see and do in the city. There are a number of historical sites that are worth a visit, as well as plenty of opportunities for those who want to indulge in a shopping spree.

For all the Family

Herastrau Park is perfect for the whole family as it can be the ideal spot for a picnic or a quiet place to enjoy the sunshine. The park is a little centre of tranquillity in the busy city and is home to a funfair, a restaurant, a sports complex, and the Herestrau Lake. The National Art Museum, now housed inside the Royal Palace, is home to a number of splendid paintings by world-famous artists such as Rembrandt and Rubens. The Parliament Palace is another interesting place to visit as it accommodates the National Museum of Contemporary Art along with the country’s parliament. Revolution Square is an essential stop for anyone who wants to see where the Communist regime ended.

Historic Sites

The Historic Centre of the city is very popular with tourists, and is home to a number of shops, bars and restaurants. The streets are cobbled, and are several centuries old. Here the tourists can explore the Strada Lipscani, the street that is lined with stores that sell everything from wedding dresses to jeans. In addition, there are many old churches and numerous antique stores in the area. Visitors interested in the history of the Jewish peoples of Bucharest can visit the museum dedicated to the subject in the old Jewish quarter of the city. The Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral dates back to the 17th century, and is home to the tomb of the country’s patron saint. It contains many icons and frescos.
