You need to be dedicated in order to join the police force. It’s a tough job but one that needs to get done. There are several kinds of police jobs that you can train for. Some of them you can get in to as soon as you are done training, and a few others you will need to work your way to the position. Here are some of the jobs you could consider.

Uniformed police officers have a profile that includes general law and order enforcement. This work is largely about answering distress calls and handling different situations. They handle everything from traffic snafus to investigating small burglaries and answering the first call to a crime scene. They bring detectives up to speed on what is happening on the scene, ensure that no one had contaminated the evidence and then move on to their next job.

Another job is that of the special jurisdiction police. These are bound by geographical jurisdictions and their law enforcement jobs revolve around this. Some examples are that of a public college set up or even the police forces on university campuses. You also have them as public school district police as well as transportation agencies. These units consist of mix of uniformed officers as well as a few investigators.

You then have sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who work on the county level. The sheriffs post is an elected one and his job profile is the same as the local police chief. The deputy sheriff has the same job profile as those who work in police departments. The police and their deputies who work at providing security in the city as well as county courts are called bailiffs. You could also try out to become a state police office. They are also called state troopers or patrol officers for the highway. Your job will be to issue traffic citations to those who break the law on the state highways.

There are also police officers who may have specialized in a particular area related to law enforcement and crime busting and they can get jobs in those specialized field going forward. These can be as chemical analysts or those who are good at firearms, finger printing as well as handwriting analyses. There is also the harbor patrol that you could consider or the canine corps as well as special weapons and tactics or the SWAT team.
