The Reggio Emilia Approach is known worldwide for the manner in which it places the child in the midst of the community and its people, helping them learn and understand the world better.

This educational philosophy also helps both parents and children come closer. The approach helps forming a strong bond, where the child and the parent gain knowledge about each other and helping one understand the other better.

The Reggio Emilia Approach gives childhood education a whole new perspective by making it fun and educational. Based upon the following principles, it helps children explore the environment around them improving their curiosity and skills by experiencing everything first hand.

• Children must have some control over the direction of their learning.

• Children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing, and hearing.

• Children develop a relationship with other children and with material items in the world that they must be allowed to explore.

• Children must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves.

The techniques that are used to educate children in the nursery are often followed by their parents at home as well. Curiosity is the key wherein the parents encourage this approach at home; helping kids learn and remember from their mistakes by setting them free but monitoring them at the same time.

Parent’s involvement is also encouraged at the nursery where parents are expected to take part in discussions about the school policy, child development concerns as-well-as the curriculum planning at times.

The Kensington Nurseries at Umm Sequim and the Dubai Silicon Oasis follow the same Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. With a team that consists of teachers and teaching assistants, all of whom hold relevant vocational qualifications, they assure parents that their child’s education is in the right hands. This has been achieved through a structured and diverse programme of playful activities with underlying learning objectives. The very simple, indirect approach to learning has been put into effect at their nursery in the Dubai Silicon Oasis and the nursery at Umm Sequim helping children broaden their communication, social, cognitive and self-help skills.
