Fun Facts About Birthstones and Star Sign Stones
It is quite interesting to note that birthstones generally have a certain degree of significance attached to their associated month. They range from semi-precious, such as peridot and lapis lazuli, to precious, like emeralds and diamonds, and are believed to have healing capabilities that greatly increase during their corresponding months. For example, if you’re a person born in April, wearing a diamond birthstone during that month will grant you good health.
Still, anyone can argue that wearing a diamond can be a good thing any time of year. There are even people who buy a complete set of birthstones because they believe that wearing the corresponding birthstone every month – even if they weren’t born on that month – has some mystical effects that improve their health and happiness.
There is more than one list of birthstones for each month. In fact, there are three: the Traditional Birthstone List,The Mystical Birthstone List, and the Ayurvedic Birthstone List. Both the Traditional and Modern Birthstone List were compiled by the American National Association of Jewelers. The Mystical Birthstone List, meanwhile, is loosely based on a 1,000 year old Tibetan birthstone list. The Ayurvedic Birthstone List comes from Indian beliefs and medical practices dating back to ancient India, around 1,500 B.C.
Although many people prefer to have only one birthstone on a particular jewelry, there are those who like to mix it up and customize by incorporate several birthstones in one ornament. Most birthstone jewelry stores can easily do this for you. Perhaps you would like to own a necklace, ring, pendant or bracelet that has three or more of your favorite birthstones in it. Silver birthstone necklaces would go well with cool-colored birthstones like amethysts or sapphires, while gold pendants often go well with bright-colored birthstones like rubies or emeralds.
Aside from birthstone jewelry, you could also choose to have jewelries decorated with star sign stones. Unlike birthstones that are based on calendar months, star sign stones are linked to zodiac signs, star alignments and planetary relationships. You can also have more than one star sign stone for one zodiac sign (Pisces has sapphire, amethyst, bloodstone, and rock crystal as its star sign stones) as opposed to birthstones, which only have one per month.
