The mission of protecting your kids so far means keeping them away from strangers offering them candy, from automobiles while crossing the streets or installing a surveillance device like ADT Security Services at home when they are left alone. These are indeed common safety precautions one should take to secure their juniors from physical disturbances but there is a whole new thing coming from virtual part of the world. Over 80% of teenagers in the US have access to internet at home, which means more and more kids are getting their chance to meet unknown people daily in the virtual world. Now, do you understand the urge of building a high level of protection for your kids in this age of computers and the internet? This article will enlighten you the need of taking an active role in educating your children about cyber security measures.

Though internet helps them in learning new things, we should remember that they are kids after all. Majority of children who are accessing net are not aware about the risks involved in giving out personal information to an unknown person. Some kids take to the next level of risk by sharing their dad's financial information like credit card or bank account numbers without realizing the threats involved. From a malicious digital worm to identity thieves, they target youngsters to harvest confidential details. This is why parents are often insisted to check out their children's online activity and the people they are in touch with digitally.

Keeping them away from internet is not possible but as a responsible parent you can always encourage your children to concentrate on smartly accessing, behaving and protecting themselves in the digital world. Social networking sites is the most common place where your children go to meet their friends, share photos, blog or maintain online journals. Instruct them to avoid invitation from strangers and to setup multiple levels of filter to protect their profile or journals. Even though the social network sites are the best place to meet friends one important setback is when you add someone as your friend, your profile will be exposed to the people in his or her network too making it difficult know who is seeing your profile. Thus we give room to culprits where they gain access to our personal information. Explain this to your kids and keep an eye on what they share on these sites.

There are inappropriate websites out there with a repository of malware, spyware and virus applications capable to destroy or even hijack confidential files on your computer. To avoid this, you can preferably rely upon some filtering systems like content blockers to limit access to certain websites. Monitoring applications can be used if you want to take look on what is being watched by your children.

Yes, advanced parental control applications that come inbuilt with your anti-virus program can help you to monitor their internet activity and stop them from seeing adult contents but are you aware that there are tutorials out there to feed your kids on how to break this control? A simple way to directly monitor them during their online hours is by placing the computer in an area where there is high foot traffic in your home. This will make it easy for them to call your for any doubts or show you something on the monitor. Further this will stop them from visiting lewd websites.

It is always good to engage your children in a healthy conversation about the things that they did or things they can do online. This way you can teach them proper ways or help them develop good habits that will ensure their safety online. You can also teach them the pros and cons of social networking, online file sharing, and even the issues of software piracy and illegal downloads. This type of practices will increase their knowledge and understanding about the technology of computers and the net as well.

You should always remember that children's tendency of being curious, innocent, and sometimes their desire to become independent can take them into the trap. That is why ordinary security measures are not enough when it comes to protecting your kids on cyberspace. You will have to know for a fact your kids computer habits and then learn how you can better protect them.

Being a freelance writer I never miss the opportunity to share my thoughts or ideas with rest of the world on internet. I strongly suggest parents to ensure their junior's security on the virtual space just like the way we ensure their physical home alone security by installing security devices like ADT Security Services.
