Things to Consider when you Shop Online
Online Shopping is one of the best services Internet has offered to the world. Imagine sitting at home and choosing the best products around the world! These products could be anything between the world’s rarest dishes, the weirdest of gadgets or even various Internet deals. They are all available on your computer screen.
All you need to have is a valid email id, address, an Internet connection and a little internet knowledge. On the other hand, there are some people that are concerned about online shopping. They complain that the joy of seeing or feeling the product in your hand is missing when you shop online.
Here are few things that can help you shop online better.
1.Watch out for your basket items
Online shopping is very common in US and the European countries. Various tricks are being followed to make customers add up another item to their basket, especially if he is buying things in bulk.
For instance, there would be an offer somewhere in the screen that prompts you to purchase things like travel insurance. By default the checkbox would be selected or the “YES” button would be ticked. If you miss out on this, you would end up purchasing a travel insurance scheme.
So make it a point to check your basket properly before making the final payment.
2.Understanding the Terms and Conditions
“Play with words” this is what advertisers do these days. The offers, discounts and free stuff along with the main products are advertised in such a way that most of the time they are too good to believe.
To make sure that what you have seen or heard is true, read the terms and conditions or the offer explained in detail. More often than not, you may end up disappointed. It might be a case where you will have to fulfill a condition to attain the offer.
3.Be careful when signing up
There are some services that make you sign up for buying their products. For example, paid newsletters ask you to sign up before getting their service. But then cancelling the service is not always easy. Some sites ask you to send a registered letter to do so.
4.Beware of Hidden Cost
There are some websites that surprise you with additional charges as you go to the payment page or the checkout process. You may be asked for additional charges like delivery charges, shipping charges, handling charges or taxes.
The fact that modern Internet users do not spend enough time reading details of contents is an added advantage for sellers. For instance, there are options like “Read More”. When you click on them there will be a huge paragraph with lots of explanation. Now if you rush through these points, you may not pay attention to many details. You might end up not knowing certain conditions that expect you to pay more money for a service.
There are catchy but false advertisements that make you rush for services. For instance you may be prompted to click on a link to watch sports videos but you may end up in a sports goods shopping site.
7.Know the free and fee services
While some genuine sites give you free services, there are some fake sites that imitate other genuine sites and give you service for a fee. In order to avoid this, get to know the URLS of the websites well.
