The Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Networking Sites
An interesting statistic reveals that the people spend almost 40% of their online time on the social networking sites. These facilities weren’t available about ten years back. However, like it or not one has to admit that things like these have only attracted more visitors to the virtual world of Internet. All right! Let us now discuss something about the social networking sites. Among all the online activities, it is well known that the social networking sites have caught the highest glare of the public for various reasons. The freedom and luxury that the social networking sites offer are some of the main reasons why they are so fondly liked by the people. However, they do invoke extreme reactions among the public; both good and bad. But let us now look at the general aspects of the social networking sites.
The most striking feature of the social networking sites is that they act as a great source of communication for the people. We can make new friends, keep in touch with our existing friends, relatives and family members literally from anywhere in the world (provided you have access to the internet over there!). We can interact with people from various fields and backgrounds by logging in to any of the popular social networking sites such as facebook and twitter. By making friends with people from abroad, we get to know about their culture and lifestyle. Moreover, the social networking acts as a great source to spread information in the easiest way. It also serves as a platform for the advertisers to promote their products and services for a substantial cost.
Though there are lots of websites on the Internet, you are simply not going to get lost once you are logged on to any of the social networking sites. And thankfully these days, you don’t have to worry about slow Internet speeds when you have some reliable high-speed Internet connections such as the one powered by ATT Uverse Internet. Having said about the convenience of using the social networking sites, from a critic’s point of view, one has to admit that just like the two sides of the same coin even the social networking sites have their own pros and cons.
Advantages and disadvantages of social networking sites
Advantages:
The biggest benefit of social networking sites is that they help you keep in touch with your close friends and relatives irrespective of which part of the world you are in. There is no geographic boundary for your interaction. This is particularly good in the busy times when we don’t find the time to hang out with our close buddies. And you can also become a member of any of the groups on the social networking sites by which you get to make new friends and interact with experienced people from your field and learn a thing or two from them. Another advantage is that besides scrapping or tweeting, you can also share photos and videos on your profile page. For business people, the social networking serves the biggest advantage of serving as a platform to promote their products and services.
Disadvantages
The most feared thing about the social networking sites is that there is always an element of risk of being defrauded by strangers. If personal information is given out then there is high risk that they may be misused. Sometimes you may come across people passing inappropriate comments on the social networking sites. Another big disadvantage is that sometimes the social networking sites gets you addicted. This will result in a lot of time wastage. These are some of the reasons why some people don’t have an account on any of the social networking sites even today.
