As we grow older, the literal “root” problems that many of have is hair loss! It is okay when hair strands as many as 100 or 125 fall a day, this is normal as they will grow back or replaced. Hair falling problem occurs when the fallen hair does not grow back or the hair fall exceeds 125 numbers on a daily basis. Hair loss can be classified based on the whether it affects a patch or if it happens to a larger area or if it happens to the entire scalp. There are many common reasons given to this deficiency. Some of them are tension pressure, dandruff, etc. but there are many more causes to this than many of us know! One of the main reasons for hair loss is the physical stress and also ranges from anemia to rapid weight changes and even illness. Hair loss happens when emotions are at a see-saw. There are many more direct and in-direct reasons to hair fall that many of us are un-aware of.

Alopecia Areata is a medical name given to a type of hair loss in which hair completely falls out in patches leaving it bare. Rarely, it may result in complete baldness but mostly hair is regained after a period of time. Unlike what many think, this affects both children and adults alike. There is no specific cause for this; people who are affected by this are generally healthy otherwise. Women’s hair is generally healthy during their pregnancy time and it starts falling rapidly post pregnancy. This happens for almost 6 months and the problem resolves after the period. This condition is called as AlopeciaAreata Childbirth. Hair fall also occurs when people have problems with the functioning of their thyroid gland. You start losing hair when the thyroid gland is over-active or under-active. This situation can be changed with proper treatment. Traction alopecia is another kind of hair loss. This happens when hair is tightly braided or wound often or on a daily basis. This results in the thinning of hair and finally hair fall. One of the most common reasons of hair loss in men is called androgenetic alopecia which is otherwise known as a male pattern baldness or common baldness. This mainly caused due to a certain set of hormones called dihydrotestosterone popularly known as DHT that are present in the genetically susceptible scalp follicles in the hair for men. The sensitive areas of DHT are the front, crown or top of the head. The sides and the back are not as sensitive as the others. This is the reason why most bald men have hair on the sides and back of their head.

People who undergo major operation may have the problem of hair falling for one or two months after the operation. This is mainly because their health is not at its best after undergoing an operation. Hair sheds when there is an infection caused by fungus, this condition is known as tinea capitis. It may start small but becomes a serious issue which results in oozing, swelling, red patches and broken hair. This type of hair damage is very common with children and can be cured.

Many are of the illusion that if we shampoo our hair on a daily basis, the problem of hair fall reduces. But, that is not true. Daily or extremely frequent shampooing results in hair loss. Trichotillomania is another hair fall condition. Many might think that the cause for this as ridiculous, but this happens when people have the habit of pulling their hair out or when they twist them. So there are a lot more reasons to hair fall. One cannot point at a reason immediately and say that hair fall is caused due to this particular reason.
