Sunblinds or sun shades are special shades or roll up blinds that are ideal for sunny places like Melbourne. A sunblind is usually a piece of cloth on a frame that sticks out over a door or window. Also known as awnings, sunblinds can be placed outside or inside homes, stores, or establishments. It can be a kind of canopy that acts as a shield against intense sunlight or even rain. Some sunshades totally block the sun, while most sun shades are made with materials that allow some of the natural light to come through minus the uncomfortable heat.

Sunblinds are easy to install and they can make your Melbourne home more comfortable. They also come in various colours and designs to perfectly fit your home’s design.

Sunscreen blinds – These are modern slim-line awnings that can be custom made to any size and can either be manually operated or motorised. It basically looks and functions like roller blinds, but are only found outside. It may come in opaque fabrics for total block out or sheer fabrics that allow the light in.

Auto Sunblinds – These are traditional pull-down basic sunblinds. It is a canopy type blind with a scalloped trim at the bottom. It is the most economical awning system.

Fixed Guide Awnings – These are spring-loaded cord-operated blinds that are ideal for upstairs windows, over glassed skylight, or pergola. It can also be manually operated or motorised. Some of the advantages of using this type of blind include maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature and added security as it helps create the appearance of an occupied building all the time.

Rope and Pulley Blinds – This is an old-style manually operated (using the rope and pulley) roll-up blind fixed at the top to an aluminium sail track. The rope loops around a bottom bar on the left and right of the blind and is then attached to a pulley on one side.  It is a great shutter solution for the sloping veranda roof where no other systems can be used.

Apart from sunblinds in Melbourne, there are other types of blinds that you can opt to use for your home. Different blinds suit different types of window styles and owner preferences. Some of the more popular types include Plantation shutters, Venetian blinds, and Roller blinds. For more shutter solutions, visit The Blind Factory’s website.
