How to Paint with Primer Successfully?
If is well known that paint is typically very thick and sticky which makes it difficult to spread all over the wall evenly. In order to make it spread all over properly, there is need of a carrier or medium. The thing we use for this purpose is technically known as a primer thinner. In industrial language, it is a kind of solvent. In earlier days, painters were using wax, water, and lime as solvents. The latest varieties of color have water as the medium for water-based paints, while petroleum acts as solvent for oil-based paints. It enables the paint to spread evenly. You would be surprised to know that the primer eventually evaporates.
As of now, we all know that there are two types of solvents – water and synthetic. In the earlier times, oil-based paints were widely used. It is pretty much easier to find oil paints due to their strong odour noticeable in buildings that have been freshly painted. If you want to paint with primer, you must need to know how to get the output after painting your wall with color. This odour comes because of volatile organic compounds and mineral oils. These volatile organic compounds tend to evaporate & leave behind the layer of primer & binder sticking on the wall. In many countries these Volatile Organic Compounds are being considered as hazardous to both human health and for the environment & concerted efforts are being made to remove or at least cut their concentration in paints.
With the passage of time, technology has revolutionalized the painting industry with the introduction of water-based primers. These primes are gaining huge popularity due to their eco friendly nature and less harm to our environment. You will be amazed after knowing that water-based paints account for about 80% of paints meant & consumed for the residential market. These primers are often called as Acrylic emulsions too. In today’s commercial buildings volatile organic compounds under 250 mg/l of Volatile Organic Compounds are permitted, however, paint manufacturers are becoming more aware & are offering primers with even Zero Volatile Organic Compound.
Before you decide to paint with primer, it is highly imperative to gather as much information about the type of primer you wish to apply. The chosen primer must fit well with the final paint and wall condition. On internet, you will not only get valuable information but you can try various paint color samples virtually.
