Green furniture: myth or reality?

By Smith Subscribe to RSS | December 6th 2011 | Views:

What was the last thing you expected to go green? No not your favourite celeb who recently turned a vegetarian? Of course not, it’s not your car or its fuel emission capability? We are not even talking about the green building you read about every often in newspapers and magazines. It is furniture. Yes, furniture is the latest entrant in this go green battalion and it has managed to create quite a ripple in the interior decor industry.

So wondering what made this possible?

The introduction of eco friendly laminates is the reason behind this landmark change. Eco friendly laminates have a proven track record of emitting less harmful gases thereby adding to the carbon credits. With the entry of this new variety in the laminate market, designing with laminates wood has changed for better.

These types of laminates are mostly used in making counter tops, table tops, furniture layering and desk and chairs for children at schools. In fact using eco friendly laminates furniture in schools is proving to be a great idea as children are now studying and spending crucial hours of their day in an environment which is more protective in nature and has less harmful gases around. Owing to this advantage most schools are now switching to using furniture that are not merely made of laminates wood but are manufactured with eco friendly laminates on them.

Another advantage of using eco friendly laminates over conventional laminates is that the eco friendly laminates come in great design finishes and textures that give the space a unique appearance. After schools, eco friendly laminates are a hot favourite for offices, especially in the multi national companies that are extremely environment conscious. Most multi national companies are changing to eco friendly laminates from laminates wood as they want to project their buildings and campuses as hundred percent green buildings. Brands are increasingly getting green conscious and are working harder than ever before to reduce their carbon foot prints and eco friendly laminates are of great help when it comes to winning carbon credits.

Last but not the least comes the cost and expenditure factor in using green furniture. On might think that eco friendly laminates, given their added features and advantages may be costlier that laminates and traditional laminates wood? That’s not true. Laminates and eco friendly laminates don’t have any great prize difference. Both fall in the range of affordable laminates wood prizing as the laminates industry itself wants to encourage more and more people to go for green furniture so that it can give back to the nature more than what it take from it.
