To build a staircase is no simply work. There are many things to consider. The layout and shape of staircases are heavily restricted by building regulations. To start with you need to be aware that staircases can now be made from a range of materials. In the past few years staircases have become viewed more as bespoke pieces of furniture than part of the building structure and the UK market offers plenty of styles. There are now many styles and designs of staircases that are made to fit every target market.

Classic timber staircases can give a home a traditional and welcoming feel, whether there is a carpet fitted as well or it is just bare. Timber is very sturdy so it is a reliable material to use for fencing. Timber fencing has been used for centuries. Many professionals in the construction industry like architects, tradesmen, designers and landscapers really prefer timber staircases more than others because of its reliability and flexibility in design which makes it easy to adapt to modern home styles. A correct understanding of how the various elements which make up a timber stair fit together is vital to carrying out proper repairs and maintenance. These parts are-

• Tread

• Riser

• Stringer

• Baluster

• Banister

• Newel Posts

• Nosing

A wooden staircase serves as a focal point of the home. Wooden staircase parts are designed to cater for various style needs and they can be found in a range of hardwood options such as oak, mahogany and maple hardwood. Metal staircases are obviously better than wooden staircases for outdoor use, since they can take the brunt of changing weather and also look ruggedly rustic, adding to a homely look. However, stylish wooden staircases or even well-designed metal staircases can fit in pleasingly and add much to the comfort and convenience of one's home.

Another traditional piece is the oak staircase. This is popular for use in almost any style of home because the natural grain of the wood adds a warm and inviting feel to it. Spiral staircases are great if you are short on space. They are good for putting in the corner of the room as they rise straight up.

With so many different types of staircases it can be hard to make a decision on what you would like. Always consult an architect or a specialist company, as it's critical that a new staircase fits in both proportionally and stylistically. A staircase is always interfacing with another area of the house, so there are lots of elements to consider.
