Causes & Precautions for Burst Water Pipes
Pipes are used for gas supply, water supply and sewage system. Pipes are located at many places like home, and buildings etc and that can be damaged by weather or many other reasons. Mostly gas pipes are made by iron, by this reason chance of blast, and any big incident is minimizes. Sewage pipes are also made by iron or ceramic, through this reason sewage system can be managed well. But mostly water plays important role to burst the pipe.
Causes of burst water pipes:-
• Freezing water in pipes during cold periods or water expands as it freezes.
• Wear and tear pipes i.e. if you install pipes that are of a poor quality, there is a good chance that over time, they will breakdown and burst.
• Old age of pipes i.e. if you have old pipes that are corroding, there is a risk that the pipe will crack and then burst.
• Physical Damage i.e. if one is having construction work or renovations done in the home or on the property, and a water pipe is accidentally hit by a piece of equipment or tool, there is a chance the pipe could break open.
• Too Much Pressure in Pipes i.e. if your water pump is not functioning properly which leads to a build of pressure within the water pipes, it could cause the pipes to rupture and break.
Precautions for burst water pipes:-
• Firstly lag and insulate water pipes.
• Drain the cold water system if the property is going to be vacant.
• In cold periods ensure the central heating system is kept on.
If you are faced burst pipe problem, then following tips are helpful for saving the damage:-
• First you should turn off the water supply and turn off the stopcock.
• Drain the system by switching on all your cold taps and flushing toilets.
• Turn off water heating system otherwise, it should be damaged or destroyed by burst pipe.
• Turn off the electric system immediately, in electrical system can be fault by this.
• Be safe and careful about these problems and fix the problem to call a professional plumber.
