Most salesmen will concentrate on the benefits of their products solely. They will try to make you believe that what they are selling is the best, even if it is not. But consumers have become more judicious nowadays. They do not buy a certain product because people say so. They will definitely launch a series of enquires about the product before making a final choice. As a homeowner you have every right to inquire about the down sides as well as up sides for any product. It is essential to access the risks before making a final purchase decision. And conservatory blinds are no exceptions in this regard. Though there are volumes of good things written about conservatory blinds but you should be inquisitive about their risks. There are certain risks that conservatory blinds posses for the young children as well as other vulnerable persons.

In the recent times UK has been witness to a number of child deaths due to strangulation by chords which come with the blinds. Many organisations and the government itself has come up with the campaign “Make It Safe”. This campaign is supported by British Blinds and Shutters Association (BBSA). The campaign aims at eliminating risk of strangulation that was caused by looped blind chords or controls. Thus all the members of BBSA have to make bids to offer safe blind designs to their customers. The campaign has mitigated the dangling chords from the conservatory blinds. Blinds are so designed that chords will be out of reach, so that the children cannot lay their hands on them. There are some designs of conservatory blinds which do not use the loops or chords at all.

There are many options in terms of conservatory blinds, there are different designs to choose from. While some would have long chords (which are potential threats) others will have different control mechanism altogether. Though leading blinds stores (which are members of BBSA) try to offer maximum non looped chord designs, but there are some who still offer chorded designs. Reputed stores have spring operated blinds, perfect fit blinds or remote controlled variety of blinds. Such designs are connected to the bottom with the help of a chain, but this chain is not long enough to pose any danger.

There are basically two varieties of conservatory blinds: window blinds and roof blinds. Out of these two varieties the roof blinds are safe as they are installed high and work with a remote control mechanism. But the leading blinds stores in UK specialising in window blinds are also offering various safety features with conservatory blinds. Most of the blinds sold by the BBSA member blinds stores has to go through stringent quality and safety checks before they are shipped to the customers. With the safety stress emphasised by BBSA, there are heavy penalties companies might have to pay if they do not meet the safety standards desired.

If you want to keep your children safe from those dangling chords then you may also order for conservatory blinds with special child safety features. These blinds do not cost much but they offer all the parents in UK with a peace of mind.
