Patio Furniture Powder Coating-Look at your beautiful new patio furniture set

Look at your beautiful new patio furniture set: it is pretty as a magazine picture, isn’t it? You’re so excited to get outside and use it for socializing, eating and relaxing this summer. You probably paid a pretty penny for your patio furniture so you’re hoping to use it for many years before you have to think about replacing it.

Of course, you should keep up with regular care and maintenance. This will go a long way toward keeping your patio furniture looking brand-new. But there are other steps you can take; especially if you own metal patio furniture.

Perhaps you purchased patio furniture that was powder-coated. This special finish, offered by many manufacturers, is both protective and decorative, as it comes in assorted colors and tints. If you did not order outdoor furniture with powder coating, you can pay to have it done by a professional. It probably won’t cost you more than $200 or so, and in the long-run it will save you money because you’ll get more life out of your outdoor furniture.

Now, you may be thinking that you can just make a quick fix and spray paint your patio table and chairs a color you like in an attempt to customize them as well as protect them. But this is a mistake. After all, spray paint chips, and you’ll need an awful lot just to finish one coat. Please do not lay an ounce of spray paint on your backyard furniture! Powder coating is not even made of the same stuff, but rather a combination of finely-ground particles of pigment and resin. This electrically-charged mixture attaches to metal, sticking to the surface in a way no paint can.

If you are not convinced it’s time to invest in powder coating for your lawn furniture, then at least make sure you store it away during wet weather spells and through the winter. Even if it is rust-resistant, tables and chairs will only last so long without showing any signs of age.
