Considerations for Implementing Reverse Osmosis

By Conan Miller Subscribe to RSS | August 9th 2012 | Views:

Reverse osmosis is a growing popular filtration system that is commonly used in many households as it can be easily hooked up to the desired electrical appliances such as refrigerator or icemaker which takes in water from the sink near by.

The installation of a RO system is quite simple and straightforward although it is recommended that the professional technician is called in for the job to ensure the right connections for the optimal result. The RO system of filtration is very durable with regular servicing and parts replacement.

There are several components in a reverse osmosis filter system. Its membrane hosts a lifespan of 2-5 years depending on the type of water the system processes; the usage of pre- or post-filters would last 6-12 months.

Some RO systems can process more gallons of water per day than others with the same cost. It may be shocking that there would be consumers preferring low producing RO system units when both cost the same. But the trick is more is not always better; consumers who do not use that large amount of water per day need not purchase a big unit.

A lower level of water consumption requires a smaller RO unit which would allow the unit membrane to be more durable and efficient as the filtration unit would run according to the consumers’ needs with less idle time.

Another good feature of RO units is its self-cleaning membranes during the water processing treatment. This makes the unit membrane to produce clean water for the consumer without overworking itself unnecessarily.

As with most things in life, there is usually a downside; the same with RO unit; the RO membrane does not remove chlorine. However, the truth of the matter is that there is no necessity to. The RO system is incorporated with carbon filters that are capable of performing that routine. Thus, the RO filter needs only to sift out smaller particles. In fact, the remaining chlorine would be filtered out by various layers of high quality carbon filters. Otherwise, the RO membrane might be damaged and need replacement.

The RO unit is known to remove certain minerals; about 95% of them. This is because minerals that are present in water exist in inorganic form which is hard for the body’s digestion. Minerals can be secured from a balanced diet which is organic, safer and easily digested for the good health of the body.
