Ceramic Machining – the Process
One may have heard about ceramics. One may have used the same in home too as potteries, tiles or other decorative items with multi color designs on it. One may not ever have realized the vast usage ceramic has in the manufacturing industry, sometimes replacing metals even. Ceramic is being used in the automotive and semi conductor industry in large scale too. The ceramic machining is a pricey scheme. In order to reduce the cost, researchers are attempting to discover other methodology and develop state of the art technology. The grinding and lapping procedure that consist of mechanisms, monitoring techniques, diverse types of abrasives and tri biological properties are being considered again.
The new methodology of machining ceramic consists of high rate of material removing with high quality surface finish. The lesser known methodology consist of ductile grinding, belt center less grinding, lapping , polishing double side grinding, laser assisted grinding and the electrolytic in-process dressing will aid reduction of cost in machining. The idea of ceramic machining is a part of ceramic engineering. Inorganic and non-metallic materials are used to generate objects with science of ceramic technology.
The ceramic industry is massive in size and a constant matter of research in science and technology. With the advent of time and development in research, the application ceramic has become diverse. The machining ceramics have given a boost to the cutting edge technology. The ceramic is used for manufacturing of ball bearing as well that lasts long as it does not deform easily. The metal bearings have the propensity of getting heated in friction at a high speed. The gas turbine engines have ceramic parts as well. Presently, the blades of the gas turbines have metal parts that have a propensity to warm and need cooling that are being replaced with ceramic.
