A prompt and thorough accident investigation can help to prevent future accidents by uncovering root causes so that they can be addressed. A complete accident investigation consists of three parts: Interviewing the injured employee and any witnesses and obtaining written statements; Inspecting the scene, including sketches, taking photographs and preserving any physical evidence; and preparing the written report, including identifying the probable cause of the accident and recommending corrective action.
