A clean home is a happy home and there are many instructions Brits can followto keep a tidy house. Living with kids is bound to result in the property being messy but with careful planning you can stay on top of the chaos, save time and energy. Being organised may seem difficult and unnecessary but by putting in the foundations it will save you in the long-run. The key is to make everything accessible but stored, so all the homeware you use on a daily basis such as aprons, tea towels and oven glovesare easy to reach but out of sight.

Here are Ulster Weavers top tips to keeping the home spick and span. A simple décor that is free of clutter increases the value of a home. Every item should have its place in the kitchen and dining room, so encourage all the people who live in the house to return it to its designated place after usage. The kitchen is conventionally the busiest room because it is used at breakfast, time, lunch and teatime to cook meals for whole family. But the room can remain neat and orderly by keeping the worktops free and storing everything in cupboards and drawers. The only time it is acceptable to keep homeware out on display is when the products are co-ordinated and match each other like Ulster Weavers china mugs transforming the room into a cosy liveable space.

Hang all the pots and pans on designated hooks on the wall and keep all tinned food and plastic jars in the cupboard. Utensils such as spatulas, tongs and ladles can also be hung attractively on the wall to show off your culinary skills. With regards to kitchen tableware, plates and bowls should be kept in the cupboards but table cloths and runners can decorate the dining table to complete the décor. Any seasonal placemats and linen can be brought out for unique occasions such as special festive tableware at Christmastime. For child safety, store all cleaning products under the sink. Follow these guidelines and the kitchen will remain spotless!

A bathroom is not a very large space to keep clean but if it does become jumbled it will look crowded and scruffy. A cupboard below or above the sink can store all the toilet rolls, cleaning and beauty products. This is important for health and safety so you don’t slip on the soap in the shower or bang your head on the vanity mirror. By cleaning the bath once a week, it will prevent mould and rust from occurring and nobody wants to soak in a dirty bathtub. If you don’t have a designated washing room, ease yourself of the strain with laundry baskets and divide them up into colours and whites.

Try storing all the seasonal clothes you’re not wearing in the attic, so in the winter put away all your flip flops. It will create tons of room in the bedroom wardrobes so nothing can be left on the floor. Keep a dedicated box to hoard all legal documents, receipts and instruction manuals but try to go paperless. Furthermore, have boxes to amass all the children’s toys, school supplies and kid’s aprons. Teach the little ones to be responsible and keep their own bedrooms tidy, it is character building and takes the burden off you.
