Hunting is a popular recreational activity in the United States. It is regulated by state laws to protect and conserve the animals by enforcing open and closed seasons to safeguard certain species at times when they are vulnerable (e.g. during breeding seasons). Most people prefer hunting big game animals, since hunting these targets are more challenging.

Big game hunting can be very exhilarating, but it can also be dangerous. There are safety guidelines that you have to keep in mind. These safety guidelines can help ensure you and your companions' welfare while out in the field.

Before the hunt. Check all your guns and other equipment to see if they are functioning well before going on any hunt. Also think about your clothing. Hunting safety regulations indicate that one must wear an upper body garment with a minimum of 144 square inches of hunter orange, or a full size orange cap. This will keep you from becoming another hunter's accidental target.

It is also advisable if you have a hunting buddy with you; you can look out for each other. Should you hunt alone, make sure that people know where you are going, and when they should expect you back. It is also advised not to bring children around when hunting, given the nature of the activity.

During the hunt. Once you are already out for guided whitetail hunts, there is a certain essential rule that you have to remember: always treat a firearm as if it were loaded. Even if you witnessed it being unloaded, or you unloaded it yourself, you still have to consider it loaded. This applies in everything you do; you have to ensure that the safety is always on. A gun must also be pointed down when you are walking with it or transporting it.

You should also know when to shoot during hunts like high fence hunts. For example, you should never shoot at just any sound or movement. Also make sure that you are aiming at an animal, not another person. Look around the animal you are aiming at; there should be no people near it. Hunters also need to look way beyond the target, as certain ammunitions can go quite far. When you have shot an animal, make sure that it is already dead before bringing it to your vehicle.

There are more of these safety guidelines that you have to be aware of, especially when you are a beginner in trophy whitetail hunts # and other kinds of hunts. However, do not forget to enjoy the whole thing; just know that it is always better to be safe than sorry.
