How to Run and Maintain Nitro RC Cars

By Javed Khan Subscribe to RSS | March 23rd 2012 | Views:

Running nitro RC cars can be very tricky because it uses a fuel mixture that is highly flammable. They are considered to be faster than their electric powered counterparts, even running in the same speed, as the latter is sometimes dangerous because of the existence of its nitro fuel-filled tank. It is for these reasons that running these cars should be treated with caution and extra attention.

In order for nitro RC cars to run, it needs nitro fuel. This fuel requires special handling, and is needs to be kept away from flames because it is highly flammable. Aside from this, this type of fuel should avoid evaporation and addition of water, which may render it unusable.

Using a fail-safe device is often a lifesaving addition this type of RC car. These fail-safe devices often provide users with peace of mind and they usually provide cheap ways to avoid any major and expensive repairs to your cars, these problems include those that result from runaway and crashes that are attributed to bad signals.

Like any other car, remote controlled cars require regular maintenance. After running nitro RC cars for a while, it is essential to do after-run maintenance. While all remote controlled cars are in need of this particular maintenance step, there are a few more additions to the maintenance test when you have this type of RC vehicle. Here are the additions to the after-run maintenance test when using nitro RC cars:

1. Drain fuel tank. Not draining a nitro fuel tank may cause some of the nitro fuel to condense inside the tank and eventually lead to serious damage to your special nitro engine. Remember that the nitro fuel is alcohol-based and is thereby very susceptible to moisture mixing with it.

2. Clean the air filters. So long as you’re using your nitro RC cars, whether it is on the racetrack or somewhere with your friends, dirt and other forms of debris will get stuck in your car’s air filters. Remember to clean them regularly to maintain your car’s optimal performance.

3. Add after-burn oil. Before putting your car away after use, add after-burn oil to the cylinder so that everything in the engine is lubricated and ready for the next time. Not doing this practice may cause serious damage to the cylinder head.

4. Troubleshoot and repair problems. If there’s a problem with running your nitro engine, isolate and fix the problem. You don’t have to have any master’s degree in mechanical engineering to fix your car; just a lot of time and patience.

5. Upgrade. This is the most exciting part of owning nitro RC cars. It is not essential for you to do any upgrade until the nitro engine or some other part of your RC car fails, but a little upgrading can be fun and at some point during ownership, you will want to have something done to customize your car to make it more your own.
