Airsoft guns are recreational firearms that are exact copies of real guns. In fact, the actual mold of original guns can also be used for the look and feel of the steel counterparts. These guns are used in games which are similar to paintball or for someone's personal collection. They are even employed for professional training such as police training exercises and military simulations.

The guns shoot 6mm plastic pellets or rounds which are also known as BBs. The speed of the pellet is a lot slower than a real bullet, however they can be somewhat painful if you're hit. You should take safety precautions when playing with the guns. Protective equipment including protective eyeglasses or goggles and thick protective outfits are recommended. Thick pants and sweatshirts can also protect the skin.

Some Airsoft guns may be categorized as Automatic Electric Guns (aeg airsoft guns) the most widely used type. These guns are powered by a rechargeable Nickel Cadmium power supply that operates internal motors to operate the gears. These gears compress and release a piston making a blast of air that shoots the pellets from your barrel.

The AEGs typically feature two firing modes -- Semi-Automatic and Fully Automatic in addition to a safety selection. You can acquire a realistic Rate-of-Fire that will reach from 600 to 900 rounds every minute, with fully automatic capabilities you can reach 1500 rounds each minute using high capacity magazines. The gun is solid and sturdy and ideal for Airsoft battles!

The 2nd most popular airsoft guns are the gas-powered models that are capable of both semi-automatic and automatic operation. They are created for folks who are thought to have intermediate experience in dealing with the guns. Most use 134a green gas which is a type of propane and silicone mix. Less common gases include red gas, CO2 and nitrogen plus high pressure air.

The gas compresses air that sends the pellets through the entire barrel. The gas is used to cycle the slide backwards and forwards which creates recoil. The gas might be stored on-board or in the magazine. The gas guns allow for realistic semi-automatic firing such as the AEGs and magazine reloading is easy. Most folks prefer the Gas-Blowback type of gas gun. These types are called GBB's.

The last group of airsoft rifles would be the spring-powered models. A spring gun must be cocked before each shot. This can be done by pulling the slide back on pistols, pulling the bolt on rifles or the grip on shotguns. This compresses the spring and makes the gun ready for firing. As such, they cannot be thought as automatic or semi-automatic.

Single-shot spring guns are typically not as powerful because the other models, so it's the gun chosen by most beginners. The spring guns are less expensive than their electric or gas counterparts. This is because the design is simpler and has no components such as an electric motor or battery. Spring guns are also regarded as more reliable compared to other types.
