Thousands of people today own DVD discs, but there are many who still do not know how to take care of their discs properly. You might have your own movie collection or you have stored a lot of data in your DVDs. If you want them to last for a very long time, you should learn how to take care of them properly. These are some things that you should do if you want to enjoy your DVDs even after several years:

• Hold the disc properly- The playable side is the most sensitive area of the disc. When you hold the disc, never touch the playable side. You can only touch the edges of the disc with one finger inserted into the hole. Train yourself how to hold DVDs properly so that you will not accidentally leave fingerprints on it.

• Clean with the right materials - You can purchase DVD cleaning kits from numerous stores out there. These kits contain cleaning cloths and cleaning liquids. The cleaning liquids are safe to use and will not damage your DVDs. The cloths are very soft and they are basically like the cloths used to clean eyeglasses. Never clean your DVD with soap or other cleaning materials that you find in the bathroom. You might end up ruining the data in your DVD. Cleaning kits usually have instructions on how to clean your DVDs properly.

• Always keep them in cases - Always store the DVDs in cases after using them. Never purchased those cases where DVDs are supposed to be stacked on top of the other. Those things only encourage scratches. If you do not have enough money to purchase those plastic DVD cases, you could purchase paper cases. You should store your DVD in the case right after using so that accidental scratching will not occur.

• Use buffing kits for scratches - Sometimes, no matter how hard you try in keeping the DVDs free from scratches, they still get scratched. Scratches are usually caused by faulty DVD players. If you see scratches, it is a good idea to buy a buffing kit. This is so that you could make your DVD free from scratches again. There are even video stores out there that have buffing machines. You might be charged for the buffing services.

• Keep discs out of children's reach - For young kids, DVDs are shiny toys that they will definitely love to play with. Store your precious DVDs in places that will not be reached by children. If you really value your movie collection, you might want to store them in a cabinet with a lock. This is so that you will only be the one who have access to your discs.

These are the tips that you should do if you want your DVDs to be free from scratches and damage. If you do these tips, you will still be able to enjoy your DVDs even after decades. Of course, DVDs might not be very popular by then but at least you have still preserved your precious movies and data.
