Recycling or Refilling Ink Cartridges for Environmental Sustainability
Recycling ink cartridges is one of the common concerns of businesses, especially those that spend a fortune on replacement cartridges every few days. Replacement ink cartridges can pose serious threat to environment, and also they certainly occupy a lot of room. However, there are several ways to recycle these cartridges to utilize the empty units for your business, and to make you feel better about yourself.
To begin with recycling program, first of all, look at the cartridge’s packaging. Some ink manufacturers offer recycling program for their specific cartridge, and this can be the easiest process for recycling. However, if the packaging is no longer with you, or if it does not list any such information, check it in the manufacturer’s website; sometimes the information are given online, or they may have begun the program recently and the cartridge was made before it. Generally, you need to send the empty units to the manufacturer, or they may provide a mailer service for people with a heap of cartridges.
You have the option to sell the used ink cartridges to a recycling unit. Many such services are present nowadays that need cartridges, and they are willing to pay people for used ink. Most of these service providers actually refill and resell the cartridges, but in some cases they may break them down, repair the worn out parts and turn them into other products. These schemes also help reduce the carbon footprint and recycle the waste units that would normally be discarded, add to the landfill sites, and finally poisoning the atmosphere and causing damage to the planet.
Another way to recycle a run out cartridge is to do it yourself with ink refill kits. Most of the time the cartridges are not processed, melted down or used for anything else; they are otherwise refilled with ink. By refilling the cartridge yourself, you can reuse the empty units and save a burden on ink costs.
Although it may be a little difficult at first, as you need to insert the ink into the cartridge, but the overall process is cost-friendly as well as eco-friendly. If you do this a few times, you will find it pretty easy and less messy. Simply open up the cartridge, inject the ink into the internal well or sponge and leave it for few minutes to absorb the ink. When everything is done, get a test copy to check the quality and then set it for your work
