Long-term storage of business-critical data has become essential, because of the stringent government regulations. The data on your primary storage device, which is obviously your system’s hard drive, can be totally erased or tampered if a virus enters your system, there is a security breach or a hardware failure. That is why backup storage has become the core operation in data centers of all organizations, whether it is small-sized or a large enterprise. LTO (Linear Tape Open) is a high-class tape storage technology that was engineered by IBM, Seagate and Hewlett-Packard (HP) nearly a decade ago. The main purpose was to create an open tape standard that would provide the advantageous compatibility among LTO brands, along with a smooth scalable path.

HP-branded LTO devices are the customers’ first choice because it is the co-inventor of this tape format. HP’s LTO portfolio has been extended to the newest fifth generation that delivers 15% enhancement in data throughput rate and almost double the capacity than the 4th generation LTO-4 tape format. C7975A tape features the highest capacity in the HP’s LTO tape family. Recording capacity of this LTO5 cartridge is in terabytes, for both uncompressed & compressed information. 1.5/3.0 TB data can be stored on the compact LTO5 cartridge. On the other hand, storage capacity of HP LTO4 tape reaches the terabyte-class only with compressed data; 1.6TB is the precise storage capacity.

HP LTO5 system clearly beats other backup technologies in midrange storage management, data mining, digital video archiving, complex workgroup environments, supply chain management and demanding servers. LTO ultrium5 system facilitates the users to manage the voluminous data and time-critical applications with fewer tape resources. This will reduce the operating expenses, save more time and improve the staff productivity.

This new generation delivers excellent security along with the exclusive feature of “media partitioning”. For robust security, data encryption and the “write-once read-many WORM” functionalities have been incorporated by HP in this new LTO ultrium 5 system. WORM technology prevents users from altering/erasing data files, which is an excellent solution against malicious data access. The other data encryption system encodes with a secure 256 bit algorithm, thus further strengthening the data security. Media partitioning system enables the I.T staff to handle the diverse data types with greater efficiency, while reducing the complexity.

HP LTO 5 drives (full height and half height) feature an incredibly fast speed of 140/280 MB per second. That is why you can trust this tape system for archiving the heavy video/audio files and the high-performance demands of today’s enterprise applications. HP LTO5 tapes are a reliable choice for your offsite media storage requirements. They are highly resistant against harsh condition, and their durable cartridge reduces the risk of damage. LTO5 drives connect you to the previous generations as well. They can extract the stored data files from the prior two generations, LTO4 & LTO3 backup cartridges. Another breakthrough feature is their data writing compatibility with LTO4 tapes. With HP LTO system, users can extend the capacity and enhance the performance with minimal investment.
