Advantages of Offset Printing over Other Methods
There are several printing methods in use for different kinds of requirements. However, offset printing is one of the more popular methods as far as printing is concerned. There are many disadvantages as well as advantages offered by this process. That is why it purely depends on your requirements, whether or not you should go with this process. It is important to note that the offset process gives you higher image quality compared to most other processes. However, the quality is inferior when you compare it to rotogravure printing..
One of the main advantages of the offset process is the easy production of the plates used for printing. In this process, a rubber blanket is used to transfer the image or material to be printed on to the paper. Repulsion theory comes into picture when you want to understand why some areas attract ink while some areas stay from the actual ink and end up as non-printed areas. Moreover, you can also adjust the ink quantity on the fountain roller. You need to also understand that the transfer of ink to paper from the ink duct goes on in several different steps.
The plate life in case of offset process is longer and the fountain solutions can be used for lots and lots of impressions. This brings a lot of economy into the process, combined with the longevity of the plates too. This is why this process is preferred for commercial printing requirements as it brings down the costs drastically. However, the setup might take a little bit of time initially, which is why digital printing is a more preferred option when the quantity of output is lower. You must also note that anodized aluminum plates are quite sensitive and have to be cared for a lot more.
