If you want a beautiful gardens and lawns then it is important to choose the best quality topsoil. High quality topsoil can improve the vegetation and appearance of the gardens because it contains all the important nutrients required by plants. Topsoil is one of the important natural resource on earth. Topsoil is rich in all nutrients and minerals that are required to obtain and sustain the life on earth. Topsoil is the initial point from where life cycle started. Topsoil is the upper most layer of the soil that is little bit darker in color than subsoil.

Topsoil formation is long natural process and takes about 500 of years to form few inches of good quality topsoil. Topsoil is produced by the decomposition of large rocks due to climatic effects. As far as the composition of topsoil is concerned, it is the mixture of many ingredients. The main ingredients are: Minerals, microorganisms, water, air, humus, bacteria and fungi. It also contains few extract of plants and animals. Earthworms are also helpful in creating good quality topsoil. They breakdown the large soil particles into small particles and helpful to make it more porous and also improve the texture of the topsoil.

Different plants required different types of soil. We can find out the type of soil needed by the plant according to their habitat. In this way we can find out the amount of topsoil needed. The amount of topsoil required depends upon the size of garden. It can be calculated with the help of topsoil calculator. Most expert advice that about 10-12 inches of good quality soil is most appropriate for a garden because it can provide the needed nutrients to the plant and give a space to develop completely.

About the benefits of topsoil, it is very beneficial for the gardens and lawns because it is highly fertile in nature. There are many benefits of topsoil. Topsoil is helpful in nutrient retention: It retains the nutrients of the soil and provides them to plants for their growth. Topsoil is useful in maintain the healthy plant life as it increase the fertility of the plants leads improve the level of vegetation on earth. As it promotes the healthy vegetation leads to reduce soil erosion because roots of plants holds the soil tightly and prevent soil erosion from wind and rain. Topsoil also prevent land and air pollution as plants observe carbon dioxide and purify air. In conclusion topsoil is useful for plants and plants are useful to maintain the ecological balance and sustain the life on earth.
