If you wish to add colour to your garden all year round then there are a wide selection of plants that you can consider growing. Choosing a selection of colourful plants will keep your garden looking attractive and lively throughout the year, even during the winter period.

A popular choice of plants for winter is snowdrops, which can withstand cooler temperatures and winter weather conditions. Snowdrops are best planted in small groups and require moist soil with plenty of humus. They prefer shade and will need to be planted away from other plants so that they are not smothered.

Carefully choosing your bulbs will enable your garden to be provided with colour throughout the year. Tulips and daffodils will keep your garden looking bright and attractive during spring. These can be planted from October to December, along with hyacinths and crocuses to fill your garden will plenty of colours as spring approaches. Fritillaria Crown Imperials are good spring bulbs and will thrive in good-quality fertile soil.

Lilies are a popular summer plant and are available in a number of varieties. Lilies can be planted in mid-late April and provide plenty of beautiful colours and scents for your garden. Geraniums are also a popular choice of plant for summer and require some sun or semi-shade, well-drained soil and will need to be watered regularly.

Add colour to your garden in the fall by selecting autumn crocuses and snowdrops. Chrysanthemums are also an ideal autumn plant and can be grown indoors if desired.

To extend the growing season, you can consider growing a selection of plants in your greenhouse. A colourful greenhouse will keep your garden looking attractive all year round and you can easily add extra heating, lighting or ventilation to suit the needs of your plants.

Greenhouse growing is also ideal for those wishing to experiment with a selection of different plants all year round. As well as adding colourful plants to your greenhouse, you can also experiment by growing a selection of vegetables and fruit. Tomatoes, peppers, melons and cucumbers can not only be grown throughout the year but will provide you with fresh, healthy fruit and vegetables that will add colour to your garden or greenhouse.

When growing a selection of colourful plants all year round, be sure to research their requirements beforehand. Different types of plants will only thrive when placed in certain conditions, so be sure to provide them with everything they need in order to grow them successfully.
