The Top Tea-Drinking Countries in the World

One of the most popular beverages that are enjoyed by various cultures around the world is tea. Wouldn't it be nice for you to know the different practices of drinking tea? The following are the biggest tea-drinking countries in the world and some facts about their love for tea:

• China - Every morning, millions of Chinese people consume tea. The interesting thing is that they also drink tea during lunch and dinner. This is not a surprise since Chinese people have incorporated tea-drinking in their lives since thousands of years ago. Tea is consumed during business meetings and it is the beverage offered to house guests. Chinese love their "gongfu" ceremony, an ancient ceremony where delicate and expensive tea bowls are used. Chinese love to spend a lot of time in tea houses. Some of them even spend more than three hours just conversing with other people inside tea houses.

• England - Another popular tea-drinking country is England. English people love to drink tea especially during the afternoon. It has been a tradition for most English people to drink tea at four or five o'clock no matter where they are. The most preferred brew in England and even in the other two UK countries is black tea. The English love to drink tea while eating snacks such as sweet pastries or sandwiches.

• Morocco - Moroccans might be very popular around the world for their coffee, but a lot of them still prefer drinking tea in the morning. The tea-drinking practices of t he Moroccans were probably learnt from their Arab ancestors. Moroccan tea-drinking ceremonies are very interesting. Fragrant incenses are lit while those who will take part in the ceremony will wash their hands. Usually, orange blossom water is used to wash hands. Little glasses are arranged in a particular fashion. When tea is poured over these glasses, a layer of tiny bubbles should appear on the surface.

• Japan - This country is famous for their Green Tea Ceremony. It usually takes hours before this special tea-drinking ceremony concludes. According to tradition, women who get high education should show outstanding tea-drinking skills during a Green Tea Ceremony. Green tea is the most favored brew. It is interesting to note that there are a lot of English-style tea houses that serve black tea in Japan. The Japanese love to drink tea using vintage tea sets.

• India - Another popular country in the east where tea is abundant is India. Like the English, Indians love black tea. One good reason why Indians love black tea is that they have been colonized by the British before. Milk and sugar is usually mixed with tea to make its flavor more pleasant. If you go to India, you will see a lot of "chai wallahs". These are young boys who brew tea in almost every place and serve them to those who have a strong appetite for tea. Various Indian spices are mixed with the common black tea and green tea.

• Russia - Russia is also another European country that has a huge population of tea-drinkers. When brewing tea, Russians use the samovar. Russians like their tea very strong in taste. They usually eat sweet pastries while drinking their tea in the afternoon.
