Buying a Spanish Property

Finding a property on the Costa Brava for your dream holiday home requires first and foremost that you understand exactly what you and your family need and are looking for. There are many different types of property and the choice can be very confusing. So, what are the factors that you should take into account so that you do in fact make the right choice of property?

A villa in Rosas or a villa at Ampuriabrava

A villa in Spain is of course appropriate for those with a more sizable budget, although it should be borne in mind that houses in Spain, as are houses in France, are still cheaper than houses at home. As Spanish villas tend to the large size, they are, of course, more often found on the outskirts of town than apartments or houses in Empuriabrava or Roses, but the advantages have convinced more than one buyer! Often found close to canals, they may well be equipped with one or more boat mooring which will delight lucky yacht owners. They generally also enjoy a large garden, often with a private pool, making for an unforgettable holiday in total relaxation. This is the sort of investment property in Roses or Empuriabrava which is ideal for those wishing to have a beautiful second home in which they spend all their free time and where they can settle for good come the time to retire.

An apartment at Empuriabrava or Roses

The first thing to bear in mind when looking at an apartment on the Costa Brava is of course its price, which is often lower compared to, say, a house or a villa. But depending on its location, the price of an apartment may be higher than expected and then, maybe a fisherman's cottage a little away from the centre of things might be a better deal. Everything depends on how you want to make use of your new property in Roses or Empuriabrava and the type of holiday that you are looking for. In general, an apartment benefits from being located right in the town centre. If economy is important, then an apartment on the outskirts of the town would be more affordable. Your spanish apartment would therefore constitute a pied-a-terre, close to amenities, and particularly interesting for those who like enjoy their holidays as and when they chose and who make the most of being out-doors, all without the inconvenience of staying at the hotel. You are at-home in your own apartment, but you may also enjoy extra benefits that some residences offer, such as a private pool…

A House in Roses

A house in Roses or at Empuriabrava is a more spacious alternative than an apartment, but that often means it is slightly farther from the city centre. However, you can easily find small fishermen's houses close in, and some of those on canals or near the harbor even have their own mooring. In this way, as well as benefiting from space and amenities, buying a house as opposed to an apartment in Empuriabrava or Roses will also allow you to be close to the centre of things or maybe the beach. This is a perfect option for larger families or those who want to enjoy extended holidays. Eventually, a small house in Roses might also enable you to settle permanently in Spain and enjoy a peaceful retirement.
