The Era of White Board in Students Life

The white board has gained its popularity in the mid 1990’s and have become a fixture in many offices, meeting rooms, school classrooms, and other work environments. It is also known as marker board, dry erase board and pen board. The white board was invented by the Martin Heit who was a photographer and a Korean War Veteran. The first white board appeared in the market in mid 1960’s but it was not used in the classroom until the early 1990’s. When there was issue over allergies and other health problems then the blackboard was replaced by the whiteboard. The first black board was very expensive and was made of melamine surface.

A whiteboard can also be used as a projecting medium for video projector. It also helps to save paper and using markers does not generate dust which comes from using chalk. It’s very difficult for the asthmatic patient to use chalk on the blackboard because they are advised to stay away from the dust, so it’s better for them to use whiteboards. A whiteboard pen is easier to hold than a chalk and these benefit persons with limited mobility in their hands, those who are affected by the disease like arthritis.

There should be only special kind of markers should be used on whiteboards. Usage of other marker would create difficulty while removing because it contains wrong kind of inks. The white background can also cause contrast problems for the person who has impaired vision. It also create problem for those who write use their left hand to write as they write their hand with curved around the pen. When they drag the hand across the board, smear the marker which is previously written. Similarly right handed people will also have the same problem and this problem also exist with the chalkboard. Whiteboard markers are often sealed in opaque plastics and difficult to determine the amount of ink remaining; only fading in color intensity with use. whereas chalk has a mild smell mainly from the chalk dust. When writing on a vertical surface, most people incline markers upwards, however this impedes the flow of ink which is dependent on gravity
