Schools Violating Admission Guidelines Punishable by DOE

The Directorate of Education (DoE) seems to be using its whiplash quite too often, with a number of defaulters and disobedient schools on its list. “Chasing after these schools is a big hassle”, said a spokesperson of the DoE in India. A popular school in the capital was recently found to be violating the orders of the Delhi High Court by charging parents a heavy fee against the free seats earmarked for the economically poor students. In an affidavit to the High Court the DoE stated that the school was quite content by surreptitiously charging a fee from the children belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS).

The headlines in the newspaper of the next day, stated that the school had failed to provide the required documents during an inspection. When the supervisory staff from the DOE, checked the school admission register, it was found that it had charged the EWS students a caution fee at the time of admission. According to the principal of the school no not caution money was charged from the EWS students. In a more indepth search by the DoE, an entry for Rs 500 was found in the records.

The principal quickly responded back saying that “ it was due to a typing mistake” and that a wrong figure was probably fed into the computer” but that not a single penny was charged from these students,''. “How much more will the DoE run around with the whiplash, trying to align erring schools, teaching them the correct way of doing things and yet face a thankless parent community that wants schools to function as per their convenience.
