Report card tells the Performance of the Child
During my primary schooling when I scored good marks my parents used to hug me by seeing the marks in the report card. As I stepped into higher standard my rank was coming down and it became quite nightmare for me to show my report card to my parents. My parents must have good expectation from me regarding my career but I let them down. Once I did not show my report card to my parents because of the poor marks. I knew it that they will chide me for this and also I had a fear if they will come to know about the report card from my neighbor then the situation will become even worst. I was very anxious about this but somehow I escaped from that situation because it was not the result of final exam.
Report card enables the parents to know the performance of the school. Teachers these days put their remarks on the report cards which help the parent’s judge how their child is performing in school. This way, children cannot hide anything from the parents even if they want to. There are Schools which send the report cards to the parents online. This in a way helps children losing their report cards which they often do while coming back from school intentionally or unintentionally. But a majority of Schools still follow the traditional way of handing over their report cards to the children so that they can in turn give it to their parents. This was quite unlike my School, where it didn’t matter whether the students had got the signatures of their parents or not on the report cards. Now, parents can also visit the school and approach the class teacher of the child if they have any queries.
Schools have a different way to document the progress of the students. In some school teachers usually assign a number or letter grade to the subject or skill areas. In many schools mostly in elementary schools teachers write a descriptive for each child’s growth. Different schools have different policies regarding the report card report card's content and format; most teachers are required to include written comments about the student's progress. The specific comments used by the teachers create positive communication between teachers, parents and students.
