New Age Education: Developing Curriculum for Life
Modern day education calls for devising innovative teaching methods. The old and boorish teaching strategies are passé now. Children today require interesting curriculum, along with interactive learning, in order to comprehend subjects well. Understanding this need, several schools are designing a curriculum which is student friendly. Presidium Senior Secondary School has also taken a step in this direction and has designed extraordinary curriculum for its students, through its proud team called –Currimakers.
It is a team of experts who with the support of Presidium’s experiential teaching model has created exceptional curriculum of International standard for its students. The aim is to cater to the learning needs of each student and to provide present education system a lift. The curriculum is designed in a way that consists of elements of creativity in order to bring holistic development of children. The team is also given the crucial task of training teachers and education leaders of Presidium.
The curriculum is divided into three parts - Subject Based Learning, Project Based Learning and Theme Based Learning. Under subject based learning , the Presidium school has broken away from the conventional ways of teaching core subjects like English, Hindi, Math, Science, Social Science, IT etc. The emphasis is more on understanding concepts rather than laying stress on rote learning. Currimakers have drafted instructional maps that are known as (i-maps) for teachers, so that they can understand learning process in a better way. There is also project based learning, which is applicable in higher classes. Under this, students are basically asked to do an activity and then told to reflect on it. Another method is where students apply their understanding to create products that have real life value. All these activities enable them to make thoughtful decisions, take initiative, and solve complex problems. Under theme based learning, children are required to look for a solution to a problem by exploring multiple perspectives. This method is unique and different as it moves away from regular classroom practices. Instead it lays deep emphasis on wholesome learning.
How students benefit from this unique method?
Students are benefited in numerous ways. It positively impacts children’s performances in achieving academic goals and also prepares them for facing life problems.
Along with this, students learn to establish connections to life outside their classroom. They are able to develop the capability to work and mingle with others in a better way. They are able to make thoughtful decisions. Not choosing the escapism route, children take initiative to solve complex problems. All of these make them more confident and independent individual.
