How to Write Abstracts for Research Papers with Four Essentials of an Abstract?

Abstract is the presentation of your research work in a summarized manner as it summarizes the main content of research in a few words. Therefore, it is always written after the end of a research work as you can not summarize your research until you complete it.

Format for writing an abstract may vary according to the type of research paper that may be assigned to you. You can see sample abstracts for research papers for different citation style to figure out the right way for writing abstracts for research papers of different kinds. However, the main purpose of writing abstract involves the presentation of your opinions about the subject in a concise manner.

Generally, an abstract follow four essentials in common irrespective of the citation style that you may be assigned to write. Here they are:

1.Objectives: At first, you will be required to answer reader why you conducted research on the particular subject. You should not take more than two sentences for it. Objectives can be based upon research questions or aims of your research depending upon the subject of your study.

2.Methodologies: Research methodologies will tell the reader about research tools or variables which you would have utilized for the research. You should use transitional sentences at the time of summarizing research methods involved in the paper in an abstract.

3.Results: Results will give a brief idea to the reader about findings of your research. In an abstract, you should try to summarize results of your research in a few words to eliminate vagueness from it.

4.Conclusions: When writing abstracts for research papers, you will also be required to give brief review about the interpretation of your research. Conclusion will involve the inferences which you would have drawn throughout your research.

These are the four essentials which every abstract should have, in general. If you are able to answer the following questions; then, you will definitely come up with a good abstract:

1.Why did you study the subject?

2.How did you study the subject?

3.What did you find through your research?

4.What were the inferences drawn from the research?
