When people are in the lookout for jobs in any sector, the first thing that holds importance is getting an overall idea about the organisation and its possible vacancies. Not only is such information useful for the people for their knowledge, but it also provide them answers when they are asked about the organisation during interviews. Having an overall idea allows the job hopefuls to know about the organisational structure and helps in making an informed decision about the type of job that they would take up in the corporation.

The importance of having such a broadening view of the company is no better applicable anywhere than it is in case of Mahagenco. Maharashtra State Power Generation Corporation Ltd, as it is called, is responsible for the major part of electricity generation in the state of Maharashtra. It was only in the year 2005 that the state government brought in laws and regulations to create the power generation corporation to streamline the different processes starting from power generation to distribution and finally to transformation. Under the division, the power generation corporation is liable to be responsible for establishing and operating substations, tie-lines and transmission lines. It also provides the technical details of different generating stations to the competent authorities. Presently, the company is looking after 9 major power generating plants in the state and keeps a watch over its functioning. These are generating power from coal, water and gas.

The recruitment offers in Mahagenco are quite varied for all those who are interested to work in government industries and build a prosperous career. The largest share of recruitment is in the jobs of technicians and official staff, which is done by selecting candidates with requisite qualification of passing ITI. Engineers from a number of streams such as electrical, electronics, mechanical, computer science, instrumentation and civil engineering are recruited into the organisation. The immediate posting after graduation in engineering could be the trainees or the sub engineer, junior engineer, or the assistant executive engineers. In order to provide health services to the employees in Mahagenco, there are hospitals set up in different places and these employ the lab technicians, nurses and the doctors and specialty medical officers. Apart from these professional recruitments, there are many requirements of office staffs of all ranks.

Some of the major recruitment offers are seen in the vacancies of general manager, Joint Chief Account Officer, Deputy Chief Account Officer, accountant, divisional accountant, joint director HR, personal officer, head clerk, typist, stenographer, and computer operators. The large number of assistant engineers is an alluring factor in the turning up of thousands of engineering graduates during the Mahagenco recruitment drive.

Depending on the posts advertised for, the educational qualifications are looked at, but the majority of the posts require, a pass in the graduation level in the science streams. Sometimes graduates in commerce and finances are selected for the accountant posts. The interested people can enter into the Mahagenco by applying for the posts in the prescribed application form and start their careers, when recruited. Future prospects are bright in such organisations because these are under the state government and the opportunities to go up through promotions are also quite lucrative.
