A Small Tale about Kindergarten Education System
Gone are the days when we used to find every other thing meaningful and attractive; when we didn’t have anything to worry about and when we were free birds in the sky of the newly experienced world; gone are the days of kindergarten. Even today also, when I have joined a good organization and earning a handsome amount, I rejuvenate my kindergarten days. It is true that being an adult, I can take my own decisions and can have almost everything that I wish to have, but I really miss the innocence of my childhood days. It is that time of life which is full of curiosity and eagerness. In our childhood days, our mind is full of questions and we keep on seeking the answers for them. Kindergarten is that particular place where our curiosity gets the wings of imagination. Though the history of kindergarten is not more than 200 years old, but this concept has been popularized greatly in recent few decades. There are many reasons that contribute to the popularity of this concept of learning. Before discussing about this concept of learning, let us consider the history of kindergarten.
The word ‘kindergarten’ is derived from a German word that means ‘children’s garden’. Friedrich Frobel used this term for the play and activity institute that he set up in 1837 in Bad Blankenburg, Germany. Frobel started the institute with a view to prepare the kids for the formal schools. He gave his institute this name because he conceptualized a world of learning where kids would be taken care of by the teachers like flowers are in the garden. The term ‘kindergarten’ is used in a variety of ways in the different nations of the world. Basically the kindergarten years start at an age of three; kids who have reached 3 years of age can be admitted to the kindergarten. Frobel developed a unique concept where kids are left free to observe the world around them. He also developed different tools to help the kids in to learn about the world. This concept became so much popular that in a later period people like Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner adopted his ideas.
In the modern day scenario, the concept of kindergarten has become very famous. The advancement in technology has influenced this system to a large extent and many new developments have been occurred in this area of learning. According to child psychologists, the major portion of a child’s brain development occurs in a very early age. Thus the initial years of a child life are the most crucial in this regard. In the kindergarten, kids learn the alphabet, different numerical sings & symbols and also learn how to draw different shapes on their copy books. Apart from making kids aware of the alphabets or numerical terms, the basic purpose of these schools is to offer a world to the kids where they can vent out their inner feelings and creativity. In this system, the physical fitness of the kids is also taken care of. The educationists and scholars have developed a number of activities that can be offered to the kids for developing a good physic. Kindergarten education has become a must need in this fast moving world to prepare the kids for the formal world of education.
