In general, an abstract include the purpose, methodology/methodologies, results and conclusions concerning the subject of your research in the paper. Students should pursue the following points for coming up with a good research paper abstract:

Point No.1: After completing your research paper; you should read it in an exhaustive manner. In an abstract; you are required to summarize the main points covered in your paper, so it’s crucial for you to perform a thorough study for the paper before writing an abstract.

Point No. 2: You should give your abstract a structure on basis of specifications utilized throughout the research paper. You should use margins, font style and font size, the same way you have utilize these elements in your paper. If you have to submit paper for a class; then, you should consult a professor to let you know the required format for a paper. If paper is meant for a journal or conference; then, you can check editorial guidelines for the required format.

Point No. 3: You will be required to tell the reader why you researched a particular subject and why it was important in the beginning of your abstract. Explaining purpose of your research to a reader will help him/her to find out the goal of your research.

Point No. 4: After making purpose of research clear to the reader; you will be discussing the applied methodologies of your research in an abstract. You will tell reader how you completed your research in brief through the research paper abstract.

Point No. 5: Next, you will discuss your research results and their implications in the paper. Conclusion will tell the reader how results have affected the question of your research under study.

Point No. 6: After writing the research paper abstract, you should proofread it for errors. The better way to proofread an abstract is to ask your friends or colleagues to identify flaws in it so that you can eliminate those flaws from an abstract of the research paper.
