Snow Festival.

One of the largest festivals in Japan, the Sapporo Snow Festival, held during the first week of February, attracts people from all over the world to see these fantastic artists at work carving fish, castles, animals - you name it they can carve it – from ice. These works of art are really worth seeing and if you visit at night you can see them in all their illuminated glory.

Brewery and Museum.

Home to one of the oldest beers in Japan, the Sapporo Brewery and Beer Garden is certainly worth a visit. As well as the restaurants and traditional beer hall, you can get a taste of beer-flavoured ice cream! If you’d like to know about the history of beer and how it is made, this and other interesting beer facts can be discovered at the Beer Museum right next door.

Museums.

Sapporo has an amazing selection of museums including the Museum of Literature, the Museum of Modern Art and the Salmon Museum.

Hokkaido Jingu Temple.

This Shinto shrine is located in the heart of Sapporo although once inside the grounds you could forget the bustling city lies just outside. Here is an opportunity to learn about traditional Japanese religion and way of life, and experience a little serenity in the middle of a busy city.

Photographs.

If you’d like to take some photographs to remind you of your stay, why not visit the Clock Tower (tokedai) which is the oldest building in the city. The Sapporo Canal, the Observatory Tower, the ultra-modern TV Tower and Nakajima Park are all very scenic, winter or summer.
